I. GET STUDENTS INVOLVED

We want to work with YOU.

Every UO student pays over $500 a year to the ASUO Student Government to what has become an over 10 million dollar incidental fee. We recognize the skyrocketing cost of, and the barriers to, higher education and we must to be creative with our budgets to keep the incidental fee affordable. We believe ALL STUDENTS should have an opportunity to get involved in how STUDENT MONEY is spent.

1. University faculty committees are central to decisions that affect the educational climate. We seek to increase student participation on these committees and hope to extend these opportunities to the entire student body.

2. Enhancing ASUO communication through technology: twitter, blogs, blackboard, websites, and other multimedia forums can increase ASUO accessibility and student awareness.

II. KEEP 24-HOUR LIBRARY

The Oregon Action Team brought UO students a 24-hour library this year and we want to advocate for its funding again next year.

In previous years the Knight Library has only been open until midnight. We believe the University administration should provide an environment that promotes students’ academic success and potential by permanently funding the 24-hour operation of the Knight Library.

III. SUPPORT STUDENT PROGRAMS

ASUO student programs are essential for promoting learning outside the classroom and deserve financial and institutional support.

We want the ASUO to work for you. Instead of holding monthly Programs Council Meetings, our ASUO Executive Staff will work directly with student program representatives to keep them apprised of: upcoming events, leadership opportunities, and the ASUO budgeting process.

1. Students cannot participate in a system of government they do not understand. We will create materials that will help student programs transition their leadership and learn about ASUO and University funding opportunities. This will streamline the budgeting process and allow for better oversight and fiscal responsibility.

2. Bridge disconnect between Law and Graduate Student Programs and the ASUO.

3. Overhaul the student program recognition process so students can pursue their interests outside the classroom.

IV. PROTECT LTD BUS PASSES

We believe LTD provides an important and essential service to UO students and we will protect its availability.

1. This year the LTD contract was at risk of losing funding and we pledge to keep LTD a top priority. The ASUO incidental fee does not provide sufficient funding to public transportation and we pledge to work with the UO Administration to develop a sustainable funding model.

2. If a sustainable funding model is reached it will encompass other modes of alternate transportation on our campus, including: The Designated Driver Shuttle, The Assault Prevention Shuttle, and the Bike Loan Program.

V. INCREASE UO ATHLETIC TICKETS

The ASUO should promote greater access to Football and Basketball games by funding more student tickets

Duck Athletics drive our school spirit. The ASUO should promote greater access to Football and Basketball games by funding more student tickets. This year’s ASUO cut student basketball tickets to pre-season games next year and we aim to reverse this policy immediately.

VI. ADVOCATE FOR FUTURE STUDENTS

The ASUO should support the Student Affairs Oregon 2020 Initiative: Cultivating a Vibrant Community of Scholars

This plan outlines renovation of the Residence Halls, the EMU, the Rec. Center, and creation of a Student Success Center by the year 2020.

1. The EMU is failing and does not have enough office space, meeting space, or commercial space. The Rec. Center is not complete and does not compare to other facilities in the PAC-10, and we do not have a clear entrance to campus.

2. ASUO Presidential Candidate Michelle Haley is the student representative on the Oregon 2020 Committee, and the Chair of the Oregon 2020 Student Council. We fully support the Oregon 2020 Initiative.

VII. KEEP STUDENTS HEALTHY

Students pay a $40 fee every term to use the Rec. Center
and it’s only open until 11pm at the latest. Not all students have schedules that coordinate with the Rec. Center’s operating hours and it costs around the same amount of money to use an off-campus 24-hour facility. We support and will advocate for longer hours at the Rec. Center.
